Dortmund 400m Walkability Service-Area Monitor

Network-based (not straight-line) service-area analysis: for every public transit stop (3,334) and every grocery store (365) in Dortmund, the reachable footpath network within a 400 m walk was computed in QGIS, then merged into one citywide coverage layer per amenity type. Only 15.5% of the city's footpath network is within 400 m of a grocery store, versus 49.7% within 400 m of transit.

Data & methodology ▾

Service area: QGIS Network Analysis "Service area (from layer)", run on Dortmund's OSM footpath network (53,830 segments, 2,832 km total) from every transit stop and every grocery store as origin points, 400 m walking distance.

Coverage layers shown here are the union of all 3,334 (transit) / 365 (grocery) individual per-point service areas, buffered ~12 m for legible web rendering — the underlying computation is exact network distance, not a straight-line buffer.

District % in the info panel is that district's own share of footpath network within 400m — not the citywide share, so districts are directly comparable to each other regardless of size.
